What inspired you to become a writer?
I’ve been a voracious reader since I was a child, but other than some crappy, angsty poetry as a teen, I didn’t do much writing until my late twenties. I think I must have been going through a quarter life crisis, and wanted some form of escapism or a creative outlet. Once I started, I couldn’t stop. Which was a good thing, because I was really, really bad when I first started writing, and realizing that just made me want to work harder and improve those skills. One of my favorite things about writing is that no matter how far I’ve come, there’s always more to learn and more ways to push myself.
Who are your favorite romance characters (besides your own?)
Right now, I’m totally in love with Claire and Jamie from the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. I read the first book many years ago, and had to watch the Starz series when it was on. I love that Claire is a strong, smart heroine and Jamie is totally masculine, and yet has some unexpected attributes that make him sweeter than you might realize at first.
Tell me what inspired this story.
The storyline for Imperfectly Criminal came to me when I was writing the first novel, Imperfect Chemistry. Freya—who is the main character in Imperfectly Criminal—was a side character in Imperfect Chemistry. I really fell in love with her quirky humor and her open friendliness with Lucy (the main character in the first novel, who while very intelligent, is seriously lacking in social skills). I had an idea about Freya and a potential love interest, and it grew from there.
What is one of your favorite romantic locales?
Well, I live very close to Lake Tahoe, and I don’t think you can get more classically romantic than the most beautiful lake in the world. However, I think you can find romance pretty much anywhere. It is what you make of it. I met my husband at a skeezy dive-bar, and while I would never ascribe romance to a place sticky with spilt beer and smelly with too many sweaty bodies, romance happened, nonetheless ;)
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Both Imperfect Chemistry and Imperfectly Criminal are available in both ebook and paperback format. They are both stand-alone novels, but feature mutual characters. I love writing books that make people laugh, and creating characters that have unique voices. I also LOVE hearing from readers, so please don’t be shy and drop me a line! email@example.com
