Classic Horror Movie Reviews-Mad Monster Party? (1967)

Image
Tagline: “At long last a motion picture with absolutely no cultural value” This theatrical feature is brought to you by Rankin/Bass, best known for their children’s holiday specials.   While intended for a young audience, MMP is no Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer, opening with an atomic blast and punctuated with adult humor. The movie features the voice talents of Boris Karloff (Mad Scientist, Boris von Frankenstein) and Phyllis Diller (the monster’s mate). Having invented a potion of ultimate destruction, Baron Boris von Frankenstein invites all the monsters to a party on the Isle of Evil to celebrate his achievement.   The guest list is an impressive line-up of classic movie monsters including the Wolfman, the Mummy, the Invisible Man and Dracula.      He confides to his voluptuous assistant, Francesca his plans to retire and leave the business to his nephew, Felix Franken.   Francesca wants to take over evil empire herself and plots to g...

What inspired you to become a writer? A combination of things. I had several school teachers who encouraged my creative writing. Although my passion for writing went on hiatus while I was in high school, college, and grad school because everything I wrote had to be factual (where’s the fun in that?!), I was good at it. I think this is what made me pursue a career in writing once my three children no longer needed full-time care. (I’m a technical writer by day.) But I was inspired to write fiction, first, by my love of JK Rowling’s personal story and her Harry Potter series, and second, by some online friends who taught me it was fun sharing stories. One of those stories took on a life of its own and became the basis for WHERE THERE IS WILL. Who are your favorite romance characters (besides your own?) I’ve known for a long time I’m indecisive, but I’ve concluded only from doing interviews that I rarely have favorites! If I’m given a choice of several, I might be able to cho...

What inspired you to become a writer? I’ve always loved to write, but it wasn’t until 2006 when I got serious about it. That was the year that my brother and I decided to try our hand at writing our own fantasy. We were talking about different books and the plot holes that we’d found in a particular book. It was funny, but we both said, “We could write a better book.” Our first collaboration was QUEST FOR NOBILITY and it was definitely a learning experience learning to craft a story, but it was so much fun. We have written 4 novels together to date and are working on a sequel in our “Witch Stone Prophecy” series. In 2011 I penned my first romance, LOVE BY SECRETS. Because my other books were fantasy, I write romance under my pen name, Debra Elizabeth. I just released book 2 in my “Age of Innocence” series, LOVE BY DECEPTION. I’m also working on the 3 rd book, DARE TO LOVE A SPY. Who are your favorite romance characters (besides your own?) That would be Mr. Darcy fro...
